WE HAVE A NAME

Almost all of the surveys have come back and 75% of the responders chose, "Designing Women."   I have sent an email to all participants but if you didn't get one, please let me know as soon as possible. I will be posting some pics of upcoming projects to keep checking back.
Sorry, I haven't been on the blog these past days but it took the tech several hours to clean up my computer. Hope you can still get this blog.

NAME SURVEY

Wow, The results are coming in and it's running neck n neck with:
Stitcher's Heaven,
Quilters Fancy and
Designing Women but we need to wait for nearly all returns. Get then in!!!
I have also asked Mary Borreson to be a presenter and she has agreed to either a vest or jacket. Date coming after the holidays.  Retirement has really been good to her. She looks about 15 years younger. Wish I could have those results.

Also thanks to those of you who have volunteered notions and to help with decisi9on making. You're an awesome group to work with!

TIME FOR A VOTE!

Yes, it's time to take a vote on the official name so please fill out the survey when it reaches you.  It should go out tomorrow or later today.

Kathy, Judy, and one other have volunteered to assist in decision making but there's always room for more input. Let me know.  The unofficial "board" has decided that, as agreed,  there will be no club registration fee, but that a voluntary supply donation would be needed in order to function. There is no amount suggested, just whatever you feel will help cover costs of various supplies such as heat and bond, etc.   Perhaps you also have lots of buttons, zippers, or other notions that you could make available.

Here's a few of the upcoming projects:
foot notes     Xmas and stocking stuffers     brag books     tips and tricks     sew young, sew fun     collapsible storage baskets     completing orphan quilts...just to name a few as the list grows.

THINGS ARE HAPPENING!

Well,
I'm back and more energized than ever. The project list has grown even more and I can't wait to share. The third week can't get here fast enough.  How about a couple of teasers???
As promised, I will contact all of you this week, so if by some chance you don't get a personal email by Friday, get in touch with me. I have had to create more sessions because of high interest.

A couple Days Away

So it's time to take a few days away and come back refreshed. Next week I will personally contact each of you that has registered for our new group. Remember, it's the third Tuesday of the month.  Have a good weekend everyone.

My sincere thank you

You took the time to take the survey and I'm most appreciative. Along with that so many of you made written responses to the last question and I am greatful. We will use this information to meet you needs a much as possible. Thank you.

Need a few minutes of your time please

It would be very helpful if you could fill out a 5 question survey. Very easy and take only a couple moments. constant contact/survey Pat's Patchwork

Group Sessions are Filling Fast

Phew, the emails have been flying in. Most people want the afternoon session so here is a compromise.  You may also choose the early time from 9:00 - 12:00 if that will get in more gals. Think about it. A few more openings for evenings.

Over thirty projects selected thus far but need the help of the "council" to make the final decision.

Continued

Here's the temporary plan open to interest:
Meet at 1:00 - 4:00 and include sewing an easy project, having a class or learning a skill.  Repeat for an evening session at 6:00 - 9:00.  We have long list of ideas already submitted by readers but if you want something old and repeated or some new idea, just email me.

Another suggestion is to hold an informational meeting to discuss the many options. I personally think this could get way too involved. If I can get a couple to help me make the main decisions, we can be up and running the beginning of Nov. Oh yes, I have the info on the BOM for those that wanted to know "when do we start?"

What's the Latest on the New Group?

Yep, I've been away a few days but a lot has been happening.  So here's some of the latest:
Today was the Landscaping class that we promised and it was a huge success. Not only that, the instructor has offered to have another class for our group. (I'm needing to give it a name soon).   I gladly accepted the offer, so all of you landscape newbies get ready for a class.

The "group" will meet on Tuesdays and the time is still open because I haven't got back enough comments.
We have over 20 gals who are wanting to participate but ...do you want to sew or just have a static presentation like the ol' Thimbleberries?  Read next blog for more.

Sunday, October 2, 2011

At Last! My first comment.

It really is easy to make a comment and I plan to begin the new group in Nov. Thanks Jean for the inquiry.
I'm busy trying to make special discounted arrangements for the BOM. Waiting for a response. Eceryone have a good evening.

OK So Now I'm Gettin' Nervous

Now, you know I'm not much of a talker especially over the telephone so here I am on a blog. Crazy me! Seems easy enough but now the numbers have reached 297 readers. It was only 255 the last time.  I'm becoming a bit anxious. Most of you must be shy, because still no comments from readers...you can do it, it's easy.

Well, I'm trying to get ready to go on a retreat and I keep finding myself in the "hereafter."  That's when you walk into a room and wonder what you are "here after?' I can hear you saying, I've been there!
How about another retreat in January?  I'll let you know as soon as I can finalize a date.   Same type or another theme?
Now on to the new group. I've gotten no more name suggestions but I have multiple ideas from quilters so the format is coming together.  Anyone out there in cyber space that would be willing to assist me in this venture/project? Maybe a partner of sorts.

Back to packing.

Can These Numbers Be Real?

WOW! You are really reading my blog which is only a couple weeks old. The blogspot people have emailed me that 255 people have viewed the blog. Get outta here!!!  So what's with not sending me any comments? I don't know whether to keep this going about the new group or not. So far almost 30 viewers have indicated an interest so there will be two sessions necessary. Any more suggestions for a name?

The winning name entrant will receive a surprise.

Some are requesting that this includes sewing like we used to do at Moda Univ.    Sit through a static demo and feature( like the old Thimbleberries,),  or get the latest and apply it by sewing for a couple hours?   I need to know!

I was Just Sent This Idea

What do you think?  I looked at each website and the patterns don't look hard at all. Now, this is just if you're interested in a BOM. At least take a look Colorful!!!

On the Side...Gifts from Stash.

Here's few suggestions from the latest mad McCalls.
A. Make a set of napkins for the season. They don't have to be the same.
B. Use kid prints and double it. Fuse it to the knees of those jeans to make a special splash.
C. Lovely pillowcases are always welcome.
D. Does your pet have a sleep mat?  Now's the time to use scraps and make one.
E. There are never enough potholders and if you have wovens, then chenille them for extra protection.
F. Maybe a holiday pillow to help to rid your stash of some Xmas or Halloween fabric. Today's the day.
Til tomorrow.

And the Plans Continue...

The response for a new group has been better than expected so it looks as though there will be 2 sessions. One in the afternoon and one in the evening.  That includes the group that meets from 9:00 - 12: for "Sew n Tell."

That's a lot of quilters, don't you think?  Now if you want to keep up with everything, you should follow the blog so you don't miss anything. Just click the follow button and you will be up to date.

Still no name but we're collecting suggestions.
Also I have received the following:
1. Teach me new ways to use the panels...they can be sooo boring.
2. How about the new 1862 Battle Hymn done large or as a miniature.
3. Gift suggestions that can be done at one sitting.   So keep the ides coming by writing a comment or sending an email.

Thursday...Did You Know?

Gals, this is a sad day for all of us when we hear of a quilt shop closing its doors. The Warrens shop, "Quilting Plus," has had a "wonderful five year journey," and is in the process of selling all of her display furniture, cases, fabrics, etc and saying farewell. I simply cannot believe this is happening and with all the wonderful things that you have shared about the great selection of fabrics, activities, atmosphere, and warm friendship that you've experienced over the years. Our love, thoughts and prayers go to Connie as she goes forward to another part of a quilter's journey. With Blessings!

Wednesday...Did you know?

A couple of boxes arrived with quilt kits that I got at wholesale prices.  Cute, small table toppers or wall hanging. Comes in a kit which includes the backing and binding...$8..  Retails about $15. I especially love the one because it can make up in any theme fabric or season. Going to give it a try today.

Imagine a free motion class and a student so engrossed and concentrating that she sews her shirt right into the project. Now that's focusing! What fun!

Tuesday...Did You Know?

If you own a Bernina and want to sew perfect shadowing when you quilt, then purchase a Bernina roller foot. I haven't seen anything better to get the job done and have it look professional.  Cost?, I'm not sure but I think it's a foot not be without. Contact Olive Juice Quilts for information.
How would you like to put a binding on a queen sized quilt in about 1 1/2 hours? Normally it takes me over 5 hours to sew the binding, but....I have learned how to do it in one and a half hours. Join our new quilting club and learn.

Did You Know...Monday?

Sorry I'm so late at getting to this today. Just don't know where the day has gone.  We're all ready for the retreat, well, almost. And we are ready for the Landscaping class.  Are there any other classes that you would like to have here? I keep hearing about minis or civil war...interested?
Tomorrow is "Sew and Tell," and in the afternoon I have a free motion class at Olive Juice Quilts. If you missed signing up, it will take place again in Dec. I believe.  That's all for now as I put my feet up and watch a movie. Happy quilting!

A Retreat Purchase

For those of you staying overnight at the retreat, I have purchased a beautiful four poster bed for the antique room.  Who gets to sleep on it? Walnut wood in perfect condition. Adding a dust ruffle today and dusting off some antiques. Not everything is moved yet but that can wait til next week. Hope you like it.
We're also finishing up wrapping prizes so bring your luck with you. Chuck's gone, so mowing the lawn for your arrival is not on my to do list, sorry. Questions about the retreat, please call.

Did You Know ...Friday?

Good Morning, As I typed in Friday with my hunt and peck, the first thing that came to mind was the boy Friday of literature. Anyone remember what book that he's from and who the author is?

Today, I put the finishing touches on the attendance surprises for the retreat and make some table arrangements. Can't wait for Friday to get here. Wish he was here to help.

Did You Know ...Thursday?

Pats Patchwork has been encouraged to begin a new club that focuses a bit differently. We'll have presenters, patterns, exploration into civil war reproductions, small quilts, food, NO membership fee, free stuff, embellishments, bright colors, reduced pricing on quilting, show and tell, and much more that will be shared after the retreat.

Did You Know...Wednesday?

When using striped fabrics, the stripes can run in random directions. Throw away those perfectionist tendencies in order to achieve an aged look.  Yup, I'm a recovering perfectionist!

Wool Class

I gave a class on making an "etui," this morning. Fifteen students and everyone was new to working with wool. We had a super time and I'm sooo proud of them because they nearly finished the entire sewing case at one sitting. Well done!

What A Day... Already!

Of all the things I've ever lost...I miss my mind the most. I guess some days are better than others and I seem to be in "here after land." the most lately. Thanks Eldora for giving this a name. You walk into a room and know you came for something.  "Why am I here and what am I after?" Better known now as the "hereafter."   I feel OH, so much better.

Need a Halloween Snack?

Some of my grandkids and I practiced making Halloween treats that are a bit unusual...but they're for kids. Here's one of their favorites,"Witches Bony Fingers."
Using string cheese as the finger, press down the end of it with any utensil to form the base of a fingernail. Using a bit of cream cheese as adhesive, "glue" a sliced almond on the end of the cheese to make the fingernail. Using the side of a knife blade, press lightly in the middle of the stick to create a knuckle. Add a few swipes with the sharp side of the blade to make wrinkles along the knuckle.
With 1-2 packages of these on a Halloween plate, you have a healthy food choice and nice decor.

Be a COOL Grandma for Halloween

Now this little piece of magic may seem too hard to do but you can wow your grandchildren and even some adults with a glowi in the dark mason jar.  Find a good container that has a lid that can be seen through from above. Use one of those solar lamps from along your sidewalk and take the solar mechanism out of it.  Place it inside the jar with the solar panel attached to the lid.  Place near bright indoor light on a table or shelf.
The bright light will collect in the solar panel and when you turn out the room lights, your jar will glow just like the magic of a witches kitchen. Have fun!

Turning Back the Clock

Good Morning Quilters,
Today I set back the calendar to the 1800's as I give a presentation on the civil war to 50 ladies in Onalaska.  Do You know what part you would have played for the confederates?  Might you have considered being a spy for the Union?  Today, I'll share many stories that are relevant to our quilting family. Perhaps you are even part of this organization.

Did You Know About This?

Yesterday, several firefighters from Sparta, traveled to Green Bay to participate in this memorial event. They had to wear their full gear and then climb 110 stories with 12 steps in a story to recreate what the 11th firefighters had to do on that dreadful day. We're all very proud of our men. Sean said it was quite emotional and much harder than he ever thought it would be. GOD BLESS!

Oh Boy, This reader wants some pics.

Thanks Cindy for asking.  Do you want to see some of the quilts that are going out the door. She doesn't want to go to other sites all the time and thinks it would be great to have quilts more convenient to see.  Remember that some people don't want even their first name mentioned. I'll give it a try.

Monday, Did You Know...?

This link will get you to a great website that offers some very creative ideas for just about anything. And it's FREE.   http://www.stumbleupon.com/     Have fun!

Did You Know...?

If you have Bernina machine there is a super terrific foot available that does wonders. Use it for making perfect echoing as you quilt on your machine or be creative and do freemotion with it. I used in a class at the EXPO and was so impressed that I wished I had the foot.  Sorry, not available for other models, I checked it out already.

New Address Provided for the Blog

O.K., I think we're in business. I have tried the new address several times and I'm able to get on the blog.  Now this is rather new for me, so please be patient.  Thanks Jean, for becoming the first follower of the blog. Don't hesitate to make a comment everyone when you feel the urge.  You can remain anonymous.

Let's figure out the glitch.

I've heard from many of you that you can't get on my blog, so I'll try to figure this out. Don't give up...just try again later today.

Thanks for the Email

We have now filled the last slot in the landscaping class. Thanks for such a quick response!

September Retreat

We believe we're ready for the many guests who will be here for a three day quilting retreat. My husband will be in NM for a scouting event so not being one to let a chance go by, I put together a retreat. Within 2 days it was fulll at 15, with a waiting list of 15. Can't wait for the fun to begin. Anyone have some good ideas for giving out the prizes? Crawing a number seems too blah.

Where's the trampoline?

OMG, We got up last week to find the trampoline missing. Not just anyone would steal a hugh trampoline so we began to look for clues.  Nowhere did we see any evidence of this piece of equipment and "grandkid babysitter".  SOOO, we went to our raised deck, got upon a chair and with a pair of binoculars and we could see something shiny way into the ajoining cornfield.  Yup, about 30' or more we saw the legs sticking in the air. Now what?!? Called the farmer for permission to go into the field and we discovered that the trampoling had been whisked into the air by the early morning storm. It had evidently done a couple of its own somersaults because there was evidence it had landed twice and then picked up again to land upside down and no longar useable. What a job to get all the pieces out of the cornfield.  Guess we'll get out the credit card and look for another.

Landscape Quilting Class

This class has room for one more person. You don't even have to be creative as the instructor and artist, Barb Smith , has everything ready to go. She is supplying all of the fabric for this 24x24 inch wallhanging. The best part is you'll be finished on the same day, (except for the quilting). Send an email for more information. pats-patchwork@centurytel.net

Greetings

Good Morning Everyone,
